Tense
1. Simple present tense
Simple present tense is used when expressing facts,
truths, and habits, so it doesn't need a time reference, so the verb used is
the infinitive form.
(+) I go to school every day.
(-) I don't go to school every day.
(?) Do you go to school every day?
2. Present
continuous tense
Present continuous tense is usually used to express
things that are being done or are happening in the present.
(+) Rani is writing a letter.
(-) Rani is not writing a letter.
(?) Is Rani writing a letter?
3. Simple past
tense
Simple past tense is used to express events or
incidents that happened in the past, usually at a specific time.
(+) Beni washed his car yesterday.
(-) Beni didn't wash his car yesterday.
(?) Did Beni wash his car yesterday?
4. Past
continuous tense
Past continuous tense is used when we talk about
events or activities that were happening in the past, usually a specific time.
(+) Sinta is reading a novel at 5 pm. tonight.
(-) Sinta does not read novels at 5 pm. tonight.
(?) Is Sinta reading a novel at 5 pm. tonight?
5. Present
perfect tense
Present perfect tense is used when we express
events or activities that have occurred in the present.
(+) I have eaten.
(-) I have not eaten.
(?) Have you eaten yet?
6. Present perfect continuous tense
The present perfect continuous tense is used to
express an event or activity that has been carried out and continues to the
present.
(+) My sister has been running for half an hour.
(-) My sister hasn't run for half an hour.
(?) Has your sister been running for half an hour?
7. Past
perfect tense
The past perfect tense is used when we talk about
things or activities that have happened and finished in the past.
(+) Tom had his laptop repaired before I borrowed
it.
(-) Tom had not repaired his laptop before I
borrowed it.
(?) Did Tom have his laptop repaired before I
borrowed it?
8. Past
perfect continuous tense
The past continuous tense is used when we talk
about things or activities that started and happened until a certain time in
the past.
(+) He has worked there before he moved to my
office.
(-) He had never worked there before he moved into
my office.
(?) Had he worked there before he moved into my
office?
9. Simple future tense
The simple future tense is used when we talk about
things or events that will happen in the future or a plan.
(+) Mrs. Tari will teach us.
(-) Miss Tari doesn't want to teach us.
(?) Will Miss Tari teach us?
10. Future continuous tense
The future continuous tense is used when we talk
about things or activities that are taking place in the future.
(+) I will study math tonight at 7 pm.
(-) I'm not going to study math tonight at 7pm.
(?) Are you going to study math tonight at 7pm?
11. perfect future tense
The future perfect tense is used to talk about
things that have happened in the future.
(+) The singer will finish her world tour next
month.
(-) The singer will not finish his world tour next
month.
(?) Will the singer finish her world tour next
month?
12. Future perfect continuous tense
The future perfect continuous tense is used when
talking about things or activities that will take place in the future.
(+) They will be renovating their office for two
months.
(-) They will not renovate their office for two
months.
(?) Will they be renovating the office for two
months?
